Encountering God on a Country Road

This verse came to life for me this weekend. “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5) I led 31 bikers from our church on an overnight trip to North Georgia on Friday. I thought I was strong enough to make the trip, but discovered otherwise. At one point we had gotten separated from several of our group due to a biker accident. One of our bikers misjudged a sharp curve and went off the road into a ditch. Fortunately, he suffered only bruised ribs and some scrapes. At the front of the pack, we were unaware of the accident and kept going which caused the separation. Thanks to cellphones we were able to give clear directions for them to re-join us. During the delay, I was crashing physically and it was suggested that Vicky and I take two other bikers and go on ahead of the group to the hotel so that I could rest and get off the road. Now for the adventure.

On a two-lane, backwoods country road we came upon a logging truck accident that blocked both lanes of traffic and left us sitting for a long time. I began to have a panic attack knowing that I was getting past the “point of no return” physically, and that we were stuck in the middle of nowhere. We couldn’t go forward, we couldn’t go backward, and nobody could help me. I laid down in the middle of that highway and asked the others to pray for me. I felt helpless & hopeless and was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to finish the trip. Suddenly, Christ appeared. He reminded me that I wasn’t alone. He assured me that HE would give me the needed strength to continue. Within 30 minutes the road was cleared and we were on our way! Then the Lord reminded me that our short delay earlier saved us from being at the wreck site where many of us could have been seriously injured from the fallen logs! Isn’t HE awesome?

After a good night’s rest, I decided not to continue my trip with the group and headed home the next morning with 4 other bikers. God delivered ALL of us safely home on Saturday. And I am richer in Christ because of our delays. Are you being delayed today? Don’t fight it. Embrace it! God is working for your good! I love you !
