Spring
I have felt down today. In contemplating the source of this emotional struggle I realized it was because Spring is not being ushered in with the vibrancy and warmth one would imagine. It is gray and cool. I was out earlier and not one drop of sunshine hit me. The most green that is visible comes from the pollen covering my car. Then I received a telephone call from my Mom and received a paradigm shift. She thought I would like to know that Northern Kentucky is bracing for 5-7 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow. My perspective immediately snapped and I realized perhaps it wasn’t such a bad day after all.
Spiritually I find myself doing the same thing from time to time. I lament and whine at the dreariness of my predicament. I complain to the Lord about why I am forced to suffer so. Then a phone call reveals unexpected, bad news for someone else and I realize my life is not all that bad. I wish I could always remember that despite the “weather” around me God is the source of my joy. He is the warm, Spring breeze, the smell of fresh flowers, and the vibrant colors of life.
“Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God. Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” – Psalm 43:3-5

David said it all: I saw God before me for all time. Nothing can shake me; He's right by my side. I'm glad from the inside out, ecstatic; I've pitched my tent in the Land of Hope. I know You'll never dump me in Hades; I'll never even smell the stench of death. You've got my feet on the life-path, with Your face shining sun-joy all around.
