No More Night
By Michele Rahenkamp for the Choir Devotional Book
There are several songs from this year’s musical that speak to me but the one that strikes a chord deep within my heart at this time is “No More Night”. My grandmother went to be with the Lord last year on Easter Sunday after a few days in the hospital. The chorus “No more night, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again. Praises to the great ‘I AM’. We will live in the light of the risen Lamb” is such a wonderful promise that thrills me down to my toes! There are times when situations bring so much physical or emotional or spiritual pain that the deep hurt is followed by tears. Someone dear breaks a promise; someone dear gets sick; someone dear goes home to be with the Lord. I get sick; I hurt someone; I feel like God has abandoned me (though He really hasn’t). This song reminds me that “weeping may endure for a night (in the evening), but joy (singing) cometh in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5) The Lord reminds me that He is faithful and He keeps His promises. He is my Comforter and He continually wipes away my tears now (though here on earth, they sometimes seem to multiply like rabbits!) and He will wipe them all away later.
As I wait expectantly for later, I think of all four of my grandparents who gave my family such a rich Christian heritage. Their names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and I will see them later. I will also see Pastor Scott along with millions of others. They all died in the Lord and He took away their pain and tears when He welcomed them home. “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces;” (Isaiah 25:8) “For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” (Revelation7:17) These saints are enjoying fellowship with Jesus right now and the promise of wonderful things to come helps me focus on Him in the here and now when things aren’t quite so wonderful at times. The Lord is my great “I AM” and I give Him all the praise and all the glory (He is worthy of so much more!)

David said it all: I saw God before me for all time. Nothing can shake me; He's right by my side. I'm glad from the inside out, ecstatic; I've pitched my tent in the Land of Hope. I know You'll never dump me in Hades; I'll never even smell the stench of death. You've got my feet on the life-path, with Your face shining sun-joy all around.
